Animal Crossing just Made a huge splash

Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re taking a look at the brand new DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, called Happy Home Paradise. Not only this, but we’re also going to take a look at the free content update that was included for all players. As usual, we’re going to have a section for the pros, the cons, and then my final thoughts. This’ll be fairly short, but it should be a fun time. Now, without any further ado, let’s jump right into it.

Pros

With the paid DLC, you do get quite a bit of content. In a way, it almost feels like a second chapter to the main game, keeping you busy with a bunch of tasks. On top of this, you’re also gonna have to go gyroid hunting to get Brewster to come to your island and start up his cafe, but this is part of the free update. In other words, you’re going to be pretty busy with this content drop. With the inclusion of Happy Home Paradise, we’re introduced to a new currency type that you can use to buy some pretty cool new items at the island that this DLC takes place on. This island is where you work, and it’s your job to design a dream home for vacationers, some of them being your own villagers. You can use brand new tools to change room sizes, create partition walls so villagers can live with each other as roommates, polish furniture, and more. That’s not all though, as you can actually unlock facilities on the island as well, such as a school, a hospital, a restaurant, a clothing store, and a cafe. You get access to all of this cool new stuff on that island only, meaning you can’t resize your room back on your normal island, you can’t add a restaurant or a school on your island, etcetera etcetera. Though, you can use partitions, pillars, ceiling decorations, counters, and more in your personal home, so that’s really cool.

Now for the free content, you did indeed get access to Brewster and The Roost cafe. As mentioned above, you’ll need to go gyroid hunting, mostly by using Kapp’n and his boat ride service to explore new islands. After you get Brewster and his classic cafe, you can come in and enjoy a hot cup of coffee either by yourself, with other villagers, or with your friends. Take pictures to capture the moment! Now, there are other things included as well. You get to add more bridges and inclines, place permanent ladders to get to the next level easier, enact ordinances (rules that affect bell prices, villager wake up times, and island cleaning rules), a proper storage for DIY recipes, and so much more. I mean, you even get to cook now. It’s honestly super amazing. Honestly, this was the perfect update. This is basically everything people have been wanting, plus some. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it so far, and I can’t wait to see what else I’ll be able to do, but for now, I can definitely say that I’m having a wonderful time with this update.

Cons

I will say, that even though the paid DLC is really fun, I think it’s too overpriced for what we’re really getting. Like, in my opinion, this wasn’t worth $24.99, and including it in the expansion pass for Nintendo Switch Online doesn’t really soften the blow. Sure, you don’t have to pay the $24.99, but you’re still paying about $50 for this DLC and some old games. That’s leaves a pretty bad taste in one’s mouth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m having a great time, but still, yikes. My second and last issue, is the fact that the resizing tool and the ability to have a roommate can’t be used back on your personal island. It would’ve been amazing to have been able to resize your rooms in your house and another villager’s house, while being able to invite someone to live with you. It’s probably nitpicking, but if a villager can invite themselves in, walk around, and make conversation, then I think it would’ve been totally possible to do that. It’s also pretty unfortunate that the school, hospital, and restaurant wasn’t included to be on your personal island, because we could use more buildings, honestly. Maybe in the future, but for right now, that’s pretty unfortunate.

Final Thoughts

I’ll say this. If you’re a big Animal Crossing fan, then you’re gonna want this update. I do agree that the price is pretty rough, but if you want some more good content and you want something to preoccupy yourself with, then Happy Home Paradise is perfect for that. As I said before, it’ll feel like a whole new chapter for this game. You’ll have plenty of tasks, plenty of clients, and with the new currency, you get to spend your hard earned money on some cool, brand-new, exclusive items only found on that island. Meet the new characters, have fun modeling houses, buy new exclusive furniture, and all of that good stuff. But, it’s gonna cost you a good $24.99. It’s a bit rough, honestly, but again, if you’re a big fan, then you do what you gotta do. A shame that we couldn’t add those buildings on to our islands also, but hey, at least we get quite a bit of stuff to do now. But what did you all think?
