Predictions For The Book Of Boba Fett
The First Trailer May Have Revealed Plenty
Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re doing another predictions article, this time for The Book of Boba Fett, an upcoming Star Wars series for Disney+. I’ve previously written about this project, however since then, we’ve received a pretty good teaser, revealing certain things about the series both directly and indirectly. The trailer doesn’t give away too much, but if we combine information from the trailer and some heavily rumored bits of information, I think we can make some pretty good guesses for this series. I must say that rumors are just rumors, but they could very well end up being true, so if they are, then click away, as there may be potential spoilers below. Without any further ado, let’s just jump right into it.
What We Know
Based on the description on Disney+ itself, it looks like Boba Fett is trying to make a change for himself. The brief description is as follows, “No longer a hired gun, Boba Fett reinvents himself on Tatooine alongside Fennec Shand.” So, what can we gather here? Well, number one, Boba isn’t a bounty hunter anymore. That sounds weird and almost worrisome, but considering how he’s trying to become the biggest and baddest crime lord, I think he’s actually gotten a promotion when it comes to his criminal profession. Secondly, it says that he’s reinventing himself on Tatooine. So, based on that, it looks like Boba Fett’s going through a bit of a personality change. I’ll talk more about this when I break down the trailer. Beyond this, we of course know that Boba Fett is establishing both himself and Fennec Shand on Tatooine, within Jabba’s old palace. Whether or not this series will remain on Tatooine, we can’t say for certain. It’s likely that most of this series will take place on Tatooine, but if Boba’s looking to get his name throughout the galaxy as the baddest kingpin of all, then he’s gonna need to travel. Lastly, if he’s kicking off this criminal empire with Fennec, is she going to simply be a business partner, or are we going to see the two develop a serious bond? I won’t speculate on whether or not the two will be romantically involved since that’s a little cheesy, but if we can expect this series to draw from the old Legends material, maybe it’s not too late for Boba to have a kid and continue the Fett bloodline. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Now, the trailer. In the first few moments of the trailer, we hear Boba himself explicitly state that he’s not a bounty hunter to an Ithorian (hammerhead alien species), who says he’s heard otherwise. The Ithorian knows all about Fett’s previous employment with his former employer. This is interesting, because it could likely mean that this Ithorian crime lord may have had dealings with Jabba the Hutt before. Or, it could simply mean that the Ithorian is well aware of the famous bounty hunter’s identity. It’s also very interesting to hear Boba Fett say that he’s not a bounty hunter with such assurance. He seems to be taking his role as the new ruler of Jabba’s palace quite seriously, and I honestly like it. He’s speaking like a businessman, in a way. After this conversation, we get an overarching shot of a massive city that lies within a crater. I, alongside a bunch of other theorists online seem to have the same idea, which is that the city may be the capital of Tatooine, which is the city of Bestine, otherwise called the Bestine Township. Bestine hasn’t yet appeared on screen in canon, though in Legends, we’ve seen it in the A New Hope novelization and other books and games. We can assume that this is Bestine, as it’s the only other location on Tatooine that’s considered a city… that I can currently think of. Plus, seeing the sheer size of it in the trailer, it would be fitting that this is indeed the capital city for Tatooine. Next, we hear Boba differentiating himself from Jabba, as he points out that Jabba ruled with fear, while he will rule with respect. You’d expect Boba to use his status as the most feared hunter to force people into his ranks, but not quite. Boba seems to be a lot more humble. We see Boba and Fennec about to engage in a shootout against two rifle wielding baddies, a pair of goons that I can’t quite identify. They may be some hired guns working for the Ithorian we saw earlier in the trailer. In this brief scene, we also see Boba and Fennec being backed up by some good old Gamorrean guards, who are sporting some different clothing than the outfits we saw them wear when they worked for Jabba. Nice to see them again, though.
Later in the trailer, we see Boba and Fennec having a meeting with a bunch of Jabba’s old captains: a pair of Trandoshans (Bossk’s reptilian alien species), Klatooinians (dog-like species seen in Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian), and some Aqualish (spider-headed species with the weird butt mouths, seen in various projects). The meeting seems to get a little heated when one of the Klatooinians asks why they shouldn’t kill Boba and Fennec and take what they want, but we hear Boba previously say in the trailer asking why there should be conflict when cooperation can make them all rich. It makes sense to assume that this was his response, but that’s just me guessing. You know, Boba is reeeally different from his younger self, and I gotta say, it’s pretty great. I loved him as a savage bounty hunter, but it’s equally amazing to see him as a smooth talking crime boss. We later see Boba and Fennec engage with some shield-bearing guards, and Boba absolutely destroys one of them with their own weapon. I’m not sure who these guards might be associated with, but we can definitely say that the deal went sour with that group. Before the trailer ends, we see Fennec drop some bombs of wisdom on Jabba’s old captains, saying that if they had spoken such insolence to him, he basically would’ve made them pay. Boba chimes in, by actually asking them all to speak freely. Now, this could be the humble Boba I’ve been talking about, or this could be the Boba that’s daring them to cross the line even further. Either way, it was dope. So, we got quite a bit from this trailer. In the very beginning of the trailer, we saw the return of a B’omarr Monk, which are the spider droids with the brain capsules we saw in Jabba’s palace in Return of the Jedi, we saw some classic Gamorreans returning as Boba and Fennec’s guards, we see Boba’s face looking a lot more healed than before (we even see a bacta tank in one of the shots of the trailer, which is a tank that slowly heals a person’s wounds, so that explains why he looks so much healthier), we see Boba’s outfit being a bit more different, as he’s wearing different boots, he’s wearing a kama and a black undersuit instead of the long cloak we saw in The Mandalorian, we see his newly painted armor with some pretty cool new battle damage and scarring, we see some new locations and characters, including a Twi’lek character played by the now confirmed actress, Jennifer Beals, and we see some really good looking renovations inside Boba’s palace. Basically, we’re getting a whole lot of new stuff here. We’ve got a lot to look forward to, but we know that there’s going to be way more to enjoy. Now, on to the theorizing.
What We Think
Let’s start with some of the smaller stuff. So, as reported by Star Wars News Net, it’s rumored that we might see Boba Fett tame a rancor and use it on the streets of Tatooine. That’s right, a rancor. Now, as described by their source, the rancor will be a sandy color, will be wearing a huge chest-plate, and will have wrist guards. Now, that alone sounds absolutely AMAZING, but here’s where I start my theorizing. I’m thinking that this rancor is Muchi from The Bad Batch. Muchi herself has a much lighter complexion than Pateesa, the rancor killed by Luke Skywalker, and would be old enough to be a fully grown, pissed off rancor. This would make sense, since in that series, Bib Fortuna himself received Muchi, so who’s to say he didn’t move her into the palace after Pateesa died? Malakili the rancor keeper is also probably still alive, so he’d be taking care of the rancor for Bib, and now Boba. Unless, Boba finds Muchi somewhere outside of the palace, and manages to tame and deliver her to the palace himself. I think I like the latter, as that would mean that Boba would be personally transporting this savage beast by himself. The next theory I have is the return of Bossk. I’ve mentioned this in the past, but now it’s really worth talking about. I believe that Bossk is going to pop up, because there is absolutely no way that they’re going to include random Trandoshian captains without bringing back the most well known Trandoshan himself. Boba and Bossk have been allies and enemies plenty of times, but seeing as how Boba is looking to establish some positive relations with other criminals, I think he’d want Bossk on his side as an enforcer. Whether or not Bossk would ally himself with Boba again is a different conversation entirely, as we don’t really know how they stand currently. Though, it’s worth mentioning that Bossk and Boba were seen together on Jabba’s sail barge in Return of the Jedi, so maybe they were back on good terms before Boba’s sarlacc mishap. With the return of Bossk, I think it would only be natural to want to include the other classic bounty hunters, which are Dengar, IG-88, Zuckuss, and 4-LOM. I don’t think they’d all be best pals or anything, but I think it’s fairly likely to see these characters at least once more.
The next theory is a bit unlikely, but it’s worth bringing up. Maybe, just maybe, we might see an adult Omega. I think this is unlikely due to the fact that we haven’t seen enough of a young Omega, so it probably wouldn’t make sense to rush her into live action as an adult. If The Book of Boba Fett does indeed receive a second, or maybe even a third season, that’s when I believe that it’ll be very likely that we do see this happen. I’m not sure if she would want to involve herself with his criminal empire, but I think she would at least want to establish a brother and sister relationship. Personally, I can actually see Boba wanting this connection as well, because she’s the only proper sibling that he has. An interesting theory, but I wouldn’t bet on it. My next theory is that we’ll likely see Cobb Vanth involved with Boba’s organization. Boba is well aware of Cobb Vanth, and Boba’s looking to establish control all over Tatooine, and that would include the town of Mos Pelgo, Cobb’s town. I think they might potentially butt heads, but I don’t think Cobb Vanth would care too much, just as long as his people are safe. Whether or not he’ll get another set of Mandalorian armor is another story, but I don’t think Boba has another set of armor lying around anywhere. But now, here’s my final and most favorite theory: the involvement of Cad Bane. Oh man, just think of it. Even if they only get a single episode together, do you know how amazing that would be? Not only would it be Cad Bane’s live action debut, but we would also get to see a proper standoff between two of the most legendary bounty hunters in Star Wars history. I personally believe that we won’t get a whole lot of Cad Bane, since he’ll be getting plenty of time in The Bad Batch, but I do think it would be an amazing way to close out his story. Sure, it would suck to see him killed, but let’s be real, they’re not going to kill Boba Fett just so Cad Bane can thrive, that just won’t happen. I’m not sure how he’d tie into the story, but I’m thinking a stand off between the two would be perfect to end a second or third season.
Final Thoughts
Boy, we’ve got a lot to look forward to. Could my theories be wrong? Totally, but that won’t change the fact that this is gonna be a super intense, super action-packed series. No matter what, we’re gonna see a seasoned Boba Fett establish himself as the big bad of Tatooine with his partner Fennec Shand, and we’re gonna see him work with and work against some pretty nasty baddies. It’s going to be a wonderful time, and I absolutely cannot wait for this series. But what did you all think about this? Do you agree with my theories? Are you hyped for the series based on what we know? Let me know on my Instagram and Twitter, and make sure you’re following both to stay up to date with the latest entertainment news and reviews. But that’s all from me, this has been The Wolf Den!
