Encore! Encore! Encore!

Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re taking a look at episode 2 of Star Wars: The Mandalorian season 3! Maaan, lemme tell y’all something. This episode? This episode right here? Tuh. Tuhhh. Fire. That’s spoiling my thoughts on it, but it’s all good. Right, y’all? We still friends? Cool. Anyway! I’m in such a weird mood today, I dunno. Alright let me stop. I’m just gonna… just gonna talk about nerdy stuff, now. Ready? Good. Without any further ado, let’s just jump right into it.

Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore

Pros

I gotta start off by saying, I absolutely LOVED the atmosphere in today’s episode. It was so dark and grimy. As we venture deeper and deeper into the caves, the tone of the episode just got darker and darker. I’m honestly so surprised at what we saw in this episode. It feels like something we’d see later in the season instead of now, but I’m reeeally not complaining. Plus, we got some really great Bo-Katan moments in this episode, one of which is something fans have been begging for since Star Wars: Rebels. Definitely won’t be spoiling that, but I will say that it’s a real badass moment. I’m honestly surprised that we see Din be a bit of a backseat driver here, but honestly I appreciate that. He did force his way into The Book of Boba Fett, so to see him let someone else take the wheel for a few scenes was actually quite refreshing. But it’s not just Bo-Katan that takes the spotlight, it’s also Grogu himself. We see a certain sequence where Grogu has to be independent for a moment and navigate on his own, and he does just that. It was so bizarre to see, but in a really good way. To be honest, I didn’t think we’d see anything like that from Grogu until much later in the show, maybe in its fourth or potential fifth season. This whole episode was just one big adventure, and the ending was absolutely HUGE, both metaphorically and literally, hint hint, wink wink. The things we saw here actually reminded me of The Clone Wars, because everything felt so surreal for it to be in this series. I’m not saying that what we saw didn’t fit the series or anything like that, rather it was just so huge. It felt like we were watching cutscenes out of a video game, and I looove that. This is what we need more of. We need these big adventures. We need more of the lore. We need more solo Grogu action. This episode alone puts the series in the right direction for sure, and I’m so completely satisfied with it.

Cons

Nothing! We got action, we got character development, we got a HUGE surprise, we got some great lore, and more. I loved it. I can’t wait for next week’s episode already.

Final Thoughts

I loved it. I love this series so much, and episodes like these only make me love it more. I am so shocked at what we got to see today, and I am completely satisfied. I really hope that the character of the Mandalorian goes far, and I honestly do hope that he becomes the leader of the Mandalorian people, because he’s such a powerful, yet vulnerable character. He can get knocked down, knocked out, and brought damn near to the brink of death, but with Grogu at his side, he’s shown everyone including us as the audience that he can complete his quests and fight for what he believes in. Whether it’s gunning down Imperials or uniting the Mandalorian tribes, Din Djarin is a character that can make a powerful impact on the galaxy, far, far away. But what did you all think? 5 out of 5.
