Nowww we’re heading in the right direction

Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re taking a look at episode 12 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2! Remember how I was saying things are gearing up for something big? This episode proves that. We’re getting super close to a really big event, I can feel it in my bones, my BONES I tell you. Something tells me we’re gonna get a big cameo, just as big as when we saw Mr. “You Know Who” a few episodes ago in the senate. Could we see Vader? Maybe Thrawn? Boba Fett? Who knows? But we’ll see something for sure. That’s enough speculation out of me, I can go on forever. So, without any further ado, let’s just jump right into it.

Episode 12: The Outpost

Pros

Lemme tell y’all something. This is what I’ve been looking for. This was a dark one. Like I’ve mentioned before, I don’t need it to be a super dark story or anything like that, because I do love me some lighthearted humor every once in a while, but this episode was such a genuinely realistic display of what the Empire was truly like from beginning to end. This early on in the Empire’s life, clone troopers are still widely used, but as we know, that’s something that’s been a topic of interest; should clones continue to be the standard trooper or not? Well in this episode, we see the aftermath of the senate situation from a few episodes ago, where it’s said how the clone troopers would retire and be replaced by the enlisted stormtroopers. We get Crosshair back, who gets sent on a mission to find a couple of other clone troopers who clearly look rundown, abandoned, forgotten. Resources are limited, and there’s only three troopers left including their commander, not including Crosshair. They’re sent to retrieve an item of importance, but the task is essentially impossible. Regardless, their human commanding officer, Lieutenant Nolan, being very against clones (thinks of them as used equipment), still demands the task to be done. This is the reality of the Empire. All that propaganda we see in the background of various Star Wars projects of late help to sway the minds of the citizens across the galaxy. To have them believe that the Empire cares and will always protect them all, when in reality they hated many different species and used them as tools, the same way they used clones as tools. Expendable. Disposable. Replaceable. Harsh, right? That’s why I love this specific episode so much. I hated the character of Lieutenant Nolan so much, but that’s the point of him here. He’s such a jerk that we see Crosshair in a much better light. At least, better than Nolan, anyway. It’s hard to see clones be treated like this, but it’s also hard to be on their side when they’ve done so much wrong. Against their will of course, but still, they did what they did. I loved this episode. It gave us more Crosshair, more Imperial stuff going on behind the scenes, and an off-putting but intriguing ending. I really wonder what we’ll see in the next episode.

Cons

It feels so good to write about an episode from this season and genuinely feel like there’s nothing too wrong about it. It wasn’t action packed, it was actually packed with emotional stuff, but that’s what makes me love it so much. Clone troopers were the face of the franchise for people born in my time. They’re heroes, not this. Even when we do see clones be free of their chips’ programming, we see them be immediately apprehended. It’s such a sad time for these former heroes, and I’m happy we explored that a bit here. With all that said, I do wish we had some more action from Crosshair, but it didn’t take me out of the episode. It just felt a little long in one part which could’ve been filled in with some more Crosshair love, but it’s nothing super bad. Still, loved this.

Final Thoughts

We’re on the right track, y’all. I’m not sure what we’re building up to exactly, but you can be sure that it'll be very emotional. We’re gonna see a lot more of the Empire and Crosshair specifically, with the Empire expanding their territory and dominating the civilians of these unfortunate worlds, and Crosshair… well, spoilers. He doesn’t die, relax y’all, but he’s found himself in a very interesting position at the end. I’m just ready to have his team come and save the day, but it doesn’t look like they can save him this time. But what did you all think?
