Disney Plus Day Recap
That went… alright
Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re revisiting Disney+ Day, since it actually just happened today! Now, if you were around yesterday, then you read my predictions article, and in that article, I was actually right about a few things, and I was also wrong about a few things. That’s okay though, because it’s always fun to theorize on things like this with you all, so no worries! Now, this article won’t really be too big, because I’ll just be listing the reveals in their respective sections, and then I’ll say my thoughts on them, but it’ll still be a good time. Now, without any further ado, let’s just jump straight into it.
National Geographic
Let’s kick things off with good ol’ National Geographic. Didn’t predict anything for it, because well, you guys wouldn’t be super interested in that. Anyways! Here’s the reveals: Welcome to Earth (December 8th, 2021), featuring Will Smith and his adventure around the world, America the Beautiful (2022), where we explore the beautiful nature all throughout America, and Limitless with Chris Hemsworth (2022), featuring… well, Chris Hemsworth, as he trains to do extraordinary challenges. Not a lot going on here, but these six-part series should keep us all nice and preoccupied for a good little while. I’m sure there’s gonna be plenty of meme-worthy moments in some of these, so that should be fun.
Star
Star is something that most of you are going to be unfamiliar with, so let me explain it based on what I heard and read on the official D23 website. Basically, Star is a brand that Disney, for these upcoming 20th Century Studios films, is using to release these international films. These films actually aren’t for Disney+, they’re being released on Hulu and Star+ (Star+ for those in Latin America), but they were revealed today during the event, so they’re worth mentioning. The films are Rosaline (2022), a comedic twist on William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, in which this story is based on Juliet’s cousin Rosaline, The Princess (2022), a fairy tale movie about a princess who would rather be a warrior (sounds familiar but alright), Prey (2022), a new installment in the Predator franchise that takes place 300 years ago, following the story of Naru, a warrior who’s part of the Comanche Nation, and No Exit (2022), a thriller following the story of a young woman who’s stuck in a blizzard and needs to take shelter with a bunch of strangers. Quite a few interesting projects, so go check them out.
Disney
We actually got waaaay more stuff for Disney than I thought, so let me just get right into it. The list goes as follows: Chapter by the Dozen (2022), Disenchanted (2022), which is a sequel to Enchanted, Diary of a Wimpy Kid (December 3rd, 2021), Rodrick Rules (2022), which is a second animated film from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022), The Beatles: Get Back (November 25th, 2021), which is an upcoming docuseries on the band, Better Nate Than Never (2022), which is based on the book, Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), Pinocchio (2022), which really surprised me, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (January 28th, 2022), Sneakerella (February 28th, 2022), The Proud Family, Louder and Prouder (2022), High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (20??), which is a mouthful, The Spiderwick Chronicles (20??), Baymax (2022), Zootopia+ (2022), whole lot of pluses going on here, Tiana (2023), Disney Intertwined, which is apparently the first series to have been produced in Latin America, so that’s cool. Really thought we’d see the Peter Pan film get mentioned, but that’s alright, this is still a whooole lot.
Pixar
Pixar actually didn’t show much at all for today, which actually really surprised me, but that’s alright, we all still have plenty to watch. Quick side note, there’s actually a Pixar special available right now, and I didn’t even know! Shame on me, pure shame. Anyways! The two projects revealed were Cars on the Road (2022), which is actually a series, so that’s really cool, and then we got Win or Lose (2023), which is apparently Pixar’s first original long-form animated series, and it’s coming to Disney+. That’s all from Pixar, but hey, we still got something.
Marvel
Marvel pulled out some pretty good stuff for today. We got a bit of footage for quite a few previously known series, and we did get quite a few reveals, so kudos to Marvel. Here’s what we got: another look at Hawkeye (November 24th, 2021), a first look at Moon Knight (2022), a first look at She-Hulk (2022), a first look at Ms. Marvel (2022), and then we got some nice teases for I Am Groot, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Marvel’s What If? Season 2, Echo, Loki Season 2, X-Men ‘97, which is a continuation on the old X-Men cartoon, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which is an animated series on our MCU Peter’s early life as Spider-Man, and maybe how he got to be Spider-Man in the first place, Ironheart, Agatha House of Harkness, Armor Wars, Marvel Zombies, and Secret Invasion. So, as you all can see, we’ve got plenty of goodies waiting to be shown off. I’m personally not too thrilled about the Spidey series, because we really don’t need to see his origin again, and I’m not interested in Ironheart due to Armor Wars already being enough for me, but that’s just my opinion. Hopefully it doesn’t feel forced, but I’m not very interested, personally. Other than that though, super good looking list!
Lucasfilm
Um… huh. Well, I guess Lucasfilm was here. Pretty bummed out about this, considering how they teased The Bad Batch Season 2, and we didn’t get that today, but let’s just talk about what we got. So, we got Willow (2022), which is indeed a series, and then for Star Wars, we got a sizzle reel that was leaked yesterday for Kenobi (2022), which showed concept art and a smaaall bit of behind the scenes footage. Nothing impressive here, unfortunately. Lastly, we did get a look at the brand new special, Under The Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, which actually released today. Really unfortunate that Star Wars didn’t shine today, but D23 is actually next week, so I’m thinking that they’re saving some goods for that event.
Final Thoughts
Well, today was pretty alright. I mean, it wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was still a pretty okay time. I guess the only thing that bummed me out was the fact that Star Wars got no love. I mean, I didn’t necessarily think we’d see eeeverything coming out next year and the year after, but I really thought we’d see some teasers. Oh well, maybe D23 has something for us fans of a galaxy far, far away. But what did you all think?
