The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 13 Review
Can’t lie, this was a heartwarming episode
Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re taking a look at episode 13 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2! As many of you would know, I’ve been flip-flopping around on how I feel about this series. I either enjoy it or I just don’t. I usually dislike the filler episodes because in my opinion, they’re so pointless. They don’t get across any important bits of story relating to the current state of the galaxy, and in my opinion, waste time on nonsense rather than fleshing out more new characters, interesting storylines that could’ve been picked up again from The Clone Wars, and really trying to reach out to newer audiences. Maybe I’m a bit too harsh on the series, maybe, but many have agreed with my stance, though I respect that it may be a little controversial. Either way, we’re back to talk some more about this series. This article’s gonna be a shorter one, as there’s not too much to take away from this filler episode. Now, without any further ado, let’s just jump right into it.
Episode 13: Pabu
Pros
For this episode, we find the Batch on an island named Pabu. Peaceful, with friendly villagers who happily welcome them after being introduced to them by our favorite, maybe second favorite after Hondo, Phee. We meet the kind-hearted mayor of Pabu, Mayor Shep and his friendly young daughter, Lyana, who almost immediately befriends Omega. I gotta say, while I do feel like this episode did nothing to further anything important to the series, I did find it to be quite enjoyable. It was just such a heartwarming entry. It was so calm for our heroes. No fighting the Empire, no dodging blaster fire (well, just a little in the very beginning), no bickering amongst themselves, it was just peace, and it’s actually because of Phee. Cid is becoming quite the thorn in the Batch’s side, and she’s even trying to blackmail them into returning to work for her, which is really tasteless of her, but I’m sure we all expected that. Pabu is their getaway island, and it’s essentially a vacation for them, and even a potential place to call home. The only danger in this episode is a devastating, monster tsunami that rams itself into the lower level of the island, but everyone is saved, and it’s all because of the teamwork put in by the Batch, Phee and the mayor, and the cooperation of the islanders. That’s it. There’s not a trace of the Empire, at least not yet, there’s no pirates, no bounty hunters, no raiders, no nothing. Just people living day by day, enjoying the presence of one another, living in the moment and loving it. It’s really sweet. So really, for this pros section, I’d say I’m happy with just about everything, and I’m surprised that I can say that for a filler.
Cons
I actually didn’t dislike anything about this episode. I do wish that we had a bit more trouble in the beginning, to really drive home just how badly the Batch needed this escape, but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the episode regardless, because I really did. It was a nice little break for us and the Batch, so I’m all good on my end. Surprised, right? Me too.
Final Thoughts
I don’t think I’ve ever written an article so small. I’ve had some small ones in the past, but not like this, I don’t think. I’m actually okay with that. I feel like I got to the point without spoiling much, and I just let y’all know how I felt about everything. That is a review at the end of the day, huh? Well, there’s that! Hope you all enjoyed this episode as much as I did, because honestly, it was quite the peaceful one. It’s reminiscent to The Mandalorian, when Din Djarin, Grogu, and Cara Dune settled in with the villagers of the planet of Sorgan, though that wound up being a violent episode eventually.
