Sonic Colors: Ultimate Review
Dude, I Paid like $40 for this…
Umm..? Yeah, welcome back, y’all. So, I’ve been playing this game for a few hours after I came back from watching the new Shang-Chi movie, and I’m just at a lost for words. What even happened here? Like, all you needed to do is make the game look better! Fix the graphics, maybe add some new levels, things like that! But instead, me, some of you, and others paid a whole $40 for… this. Man, I’m so upset about this game, I’m not even doing pros and cons. Sonic Colors itself is already an amazing gaming, it deserves a good 4.5 out of 5, but this? This right here? Ugh. Let me just start this review, man. I’m only having one section, and I’ll call it, “Why Is This Remaster So Bad?” Perfect. Let’s start.
Why Is this Remaster So Bad?
That’s such a good question! I wish I knew! Like, I thought we were getting our good ol’ Sonic Colors, but better! So, what’s wrong with this remaster? Isn’t it supposed to be even better? Well, that’s what a normal person would think. Instead, we were given this, a sorry excuse of a remaster. Honestly, it only does two thing successfully. Number one, it does a good job at updating the graphics, and number two, it successfully disappoints me. It does have a few new things, but they’re either nothing major, or garbage. For example, there’s a new Wisp that lets you phase through walls, which I guess is helpful if you’re doing speedruns. Other than that? Pointless. Another thing that’s new here, is the fact that we have customization. You can customize Sonic’s shoes and his gloves with some ugly patterns, and they thought that because that was a new feature, it would be a good idea to put it in. Trash. The last new thing is a mode called Rival Rush, where you race against Metal Sonic, who glitches- I mean flies off while making you replay some of the levels in the story mode. This would be a sort of okay idea, if Metal Sonic didn’t constantly glitch out every time the race starts. Ugh.
This next and last segment deserves its own spot. We absolutely have to talk about the glitches, the bugs, the crashes, all of that. I mean, really? Why? I mean, how? How did SEGA release this remaster like this? In only a few hours, two, maybe three hours TOPS, my game has crashed at least five times. Five times. I crashed when using Wisps, I crashed when playing Rival Rush, and I crashed three times just from running. In other words, all I did was move forward, and I crashed. Man. Something else that I noticed, because you literally can’t miss it, is that while you’re playing the game, you’ll randomly see parts of the level or objects in the background just start to appear or disappear when you’re close enough or far enough from them. This is an issue I’ve noticed in almost every single level. I’ve seen the shadows of rings, but there won’t be any rings to actually collect, I’ve seen Sonic clip through parts of the world, I’ve literally fallen through the world and died just from trying to wall jump, and I’ve had textures suddenly appear on the level right before my eyes. I cannot believe I was so excited for this remaster just to get this garbage.
Final Thoughts
This is a short one, I’m sorry, y’all. I literally have nothing else to say about this awful, awful remaster. The only point it gets is for the graphical improvement, but that’s literally it. I’m not counting the story or mechanics (when they work) because that would be me rating the original installment of the game, and I’m specifically reviewing this remaster and the things that came with it. Man I hate this remaster, I seriously do. No disrespect to the workers over at SEGA, but this is crazy that you guys really let this come out. Honestly, I had a better time playing Sonic Boom. Alright, maybe I went too far with that one, but this remaster is almost as bad. I know that they did confirm and upcoming patch for this game, but still, the fact that it came out in this condition in the first place is just ridiculous. This is such a shame. I was really looking forward to this game. Did you guys buy this also? Let me know on my Instagram and Twitter, and make sure you follow for all of your entertainment news and reviews. This has been The Wolf Den.
