Carrion Review

This game’s gross… in a good way?

Welcome back, y’all! This time around, we’re taking a look at the good old Carrion, which actually isn’t a new game at all, but since it actually just released for PlayStation today, there’s no better time to bring it back up. As usual, we’re gonna review this thing with a pros section, a cons section, and then we’re gonna have a section for my final thoughts. This is gonna be a pretty quick review since this isn’t really a huge game, it’s actually simple and straightforward and quite linear, but I figured you guys would enjoy a nice little gaming entry for today. Simple enough, right? Now without any further ado, let’s jump right into it.

Pros

The first pro would definitely be the overall gameplay. This game just feels good to handle, when you’re swinging around rooms to avoid gunfire and especially when you’re aiming at prey to shoot webbing or to grab on to them. The sound design is also another pro, as it really makes you feel pretty gross when you’re in combat, or even when you’re just moving around. The slimy, stretching noises are super gross, so just like your victims, you’re rubbed the wrong way basically the entire time. The level designs are also great. There’s even a certain ambience that’s created in the background with this harrowing track that plays as you hunt, which is a huge bonus for me. I personally enjoy to be fully immersed in a story or a video game’s gameplay, and I can definitely say that I caught myself getting pretty glued to the screen. As you expand your influence, or rather, expand your parasitic dominance over the environment, you’ll visit different sections of the lab, but you’ll also reach natural environments as well. In these areas, you’ll be faced with plenty of problems to solve, like how you’ll flip a switch that’s blocked off from you, how you’ll handle a handful of firearm wielding prey, or how to find upgrades that’ll grant you new, dangerous powers.

Cons

Honestly, the only con that actually rubbed me the wrong way, is the fact that this game is suuuper linear. Like, you’re able to backtrack to past levels, but you follow the same pattern throughout the entire game. Find a switch or multiple switches to access block off areas, get rid of any living beings in your way, aaand expand. Since there’s not really a huge focus on the story, more so a focus on the problem solving and mayhem, you’re not really pulled in too well. It’s not a massive con, not at all, but it’s still definitely something that should be out there.

Final Thoughts

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys problem solving, get this game. If you enjoy violence (in a video game, take it easy), get this game. If you enjoy monsters/aliens/parasite thingies, then get this game. There’s even a DLC for you to play, called Greatest Time of Year, which is actually free for everyone, so that’s dope. But what did you all think of this review? Let me know on my Instagram and Twitter, and make sure you’re following them both to stay up to date with the latest and greatest entertainment news and reviews. That’s all from me, this has been The Wolf Den!

4 out of 5.
