I’m thinking things are about to get even more interesting

Welcome back to The Wolf Den! This time around, we’re gonna take a look at what’s been happening in the show thus far, and we’re going to attempt to form some theories based on what we know, and what’s safe to expect based on that. With the introduction of a certain few characters, we’re also gonna be spitting out some pretty risky theories, which I’ll get to in a separate section from the more realistic/likely theories. At the time of writing this article, episode 11 of The Bad Batch was recently released, meaning we only have a few more episodes to go, with the first season wrapping up with episode 16, only a few weeks away. So, with that bit of knowledge out there, now seems like a really good time to start theorizing how the first season might come to a close! So we’ll have three sections: The more likely theories, the less likely, and the least likely, simple as that. Now, with all that out of the way, let’s jump straight into it.

More Likely

So, based on what’s happened already, the first theory I’d like to bring up, is the theory that Crosshair is going to rejoin the Bad Batch, likely sacrificing himself. In recent events, Crosshair took some really bad damage to the face when the ion engine from the fallen Republic cruiser activated, sending him flying backwards, and scorching his face immediately after. We see those wounds healed up a good amount, but he does have some really bad burns on the right side of his head. It’s on this side of his head that his inhibitor chip is located, so I think it’s more than likely that his chip was damaged during that event. It’s clear that it’s not heavily damaged since he’s still quite loyal to the Empire, but I think we’re about to see Crosshair start to have some doubts with the orders he’ll eventually be given. I personally think that’ll be Omega who’ll somehow manage to convince the conflicted clone to resist the chip long enough for the Bad Batch to somehow extract it, but I think Crosshair will indeed die to defend his brothers and sister from Imperial forces. Or, if the Empire isn’t the one attacking the team, then it would likely be a bounty hunter like Cad Bane or Fennec Shand. So to round it all up, I think Omega will manage to get Crosshair to snap out of it, and he will then betray his elite Imperial squad to give the Bad Batch time to escape certain doom from either a bounty hunter or more Imperial forces, and we’ll see Crosshair take his final heroic stand, redeeming himself as a character before he’s shot down. It’s not an absolutely perfect theory, but I think it’s more likely. On to the next one.

So, since we’ve mentioned Cad Bane, I think it’s only proper to mock up a theory about his character, or rather an ending for his character. I think another more likely theory, or at least a fairly likely theory surrounding this character, will be that he’ll meet his end by none other than Boba Fett. I do believe that I’ve briefly mentioned this in either my The Book of Boba Fett discussion article or one of the The Bad Batch article reviews, but I’ll dive into it some more here. So, one of the reasons I think we’ll see Boba finish off Cad Bane’s character, is due to Cad Bane’s wardrobe. Sounds silly, but hear me out. As I’ve mentioned in the past, at a Star Wars Celebration event, they actually showed a behind the scenes animation of a scrapped Clone Wars storyline where we see Boba Fett as a young man, wearing a very early version of his iconic Mandalorian armor, standing off against Cad Bane, who’s actually wearing the exact same outfit as his outfit that we see in The Bad Batch, with the only difference being his slightly larger hat and unrefined shirt in the behind the scenes footage. In the concept art for this scrapped storyline, we get a properly detailed look at this outfit, and it is in fact the same outfit he wears in The Bad Batch. Beyond that though, in the concept art for this scrapped storyline, Cad Bane also has the exact same ship we see him flying in this series instead of the one we’re used to in The Clone Wars. I think that Dave Filoni (creator of both series) knows how badly fans would’ve wanted to see this standoff, and it inspired him to not only update Cad Bane’s ship and look for his return, but it has likely inspired a storyline he may be setting up for The Bad Batch’s season finale. But, who’s to say it’s Boba who still has this standoff with him? Why not Fennec Shand? Well, Boba Fett was actually directly name dropped in a recent episode, and has direct ties with Omega. I’ll explain these ties in the Bad Batch Episodes 9-12 review next week. That alone seems to tease an appearance from the man himself. Not only that, but he would fit perfectly into the story with the Kaminoans. In the old Battlefront 2 game, released before Disney acquired Lucasfilm, we see a part of the main story where Boba Fett is actually contracted by the Empire to help Imperial forces infiltrate the Kaminoan cloning facilities, kill the rebel clones that the Kaminoans have cloned to resist the Empire, and completely wipe out the facility and all of its assets. As we can see in The Bad Batch, the Kaminoans are looking for Omega so that they may create a potentially superior batch of clones, very likely to resist the Empire, just like in that video game. The Empire would likely struggle against these bigger and better clone troopers, and would need help. Who else to call but one of the most dangerous bounty hunters in the galaxy, even in their youth, Boba Fett? This would work perfectly. I can even see the Kaminoans hiring Cad Bane one last time to deal with the opposing bounty hunter, only to meet his end on Kamino, alongside the cloners. Please let this happen. I’m thinking it is very likely, but still, fingers crossed.

Less Likely

To start off, I want to bring up my theory that we could see Commander Cody in the season finale. It’s not impossible, and it could potentially work, but it’s less likely. I say that because we’ve got out hands full with the story surrounding Crosshair, the story surrounding Omega, the bounty hunter storyline, the Kaminoan storyline, and so much more. To see Commander Cody would be so random honestly, but it could potentially work. I would personally love to see him, alongside many other fans of the Revenge of the Sith film and the Clone Wars series. My theory, is that whenever we see Rex again, or rather, any time that he’s going to be deeply rooted in the story of this series, we’ll see him needing to face old comrade, Cody. This would be any fan’s dream, as we’ve been begging to hear more about what happened to Cody for years now, and I think this is the best way to go about it. I personally think that it’s a bit of a risky theory, but I think Dave Filoni knows this is yet another favorite character we’d want to see again. I don’t think Rex would be able to save him, but would instead have to escape him or even worse, kill him, to save his friends. It would be a sad story, but it would be so great to see him at least once or twice more.

The next theory, is that we’ll see the fan favorite Republic commandos from, well, the Republic Commando video game. I’m of course referring to Delta Squad, a team of highly skilled clone troopers comprised of 4 members: Boss, Scorch, Fixer, and Sev. We actually have seen them in the current canon of Star Wars, but only once in the Clone Wars series. It was fairly brief, but it was great to revitalized in that series. While I think that we could see them in The Bad Batch, I don’t think it would necessarily be for the season finale. It would be more likely to see them later on in the series, likely in a second or third season. Hey, maybe they could show up in the season finale, but since they also have the inhibitor chip, we would most likely see them as Imperial special forces rather than Republic commandos. A very likely scenario would be where we see them leading a large squad of regular clone troopers into Kamino’s cloning facility to wipe out the Kaminoans’ rebel clones. While that would be great to see, it’s probably not going to happen. Not impossible necessarily, but it’s for sure on the less likely side.

The final theory we have on the less likely side would be us seeing Omega confirm the fan theory that she is in fact Force sensitive. While I think this is something that has been potentially hinted at in the series, I think it’s safe to say that we’d likely have to wait until the next season for something like this. Though, it would be a cool way to wrap up the first season, which is why this is in the less likely spot rather than the least likely spot. One theory I have for this would be along the lines of the Bad Batch being cornered in a really tough spot, and we see Omega becoming overly frustrated with the anxiety of the potentially dire situation, and we see her use the Force against Imperial forces. That, or perhaps she gains foresight from the Force to potentially find her and her squad a way out of a jam that seems impossible to get out of. It’s not exactly a refined theory, since it’s really anyone’s guess how she could use the Force, but it is still a theory nonetheless.

Least Likely

For this final section, I’m gonna kick off with a super impossible theory. This theory, is that the entire, or almost the entire Bad Batch squad will die, leaving Omega to carry the Bad Batch name by herself. Of course, this definitely won’t happen, but let’s see what we could theorize with it anyways. Maybe for something like this, we can see Omega taking on Hunter’s role as leader. With the sacrifice of the Bad Batch, people, or clones more specifically, around the galaxy would likely feel a spark that would force them to start a rebellion against the Empire. Omega could find some rebel clones, and enlist them into the Bad Batch, and we could have a brand new Bad Batch adventure, while paying our respects as fans to the old Clone Force 99. This will literally never happen. Or, if this does happen, this would likely be for the SERIES finale, but definitely not this season finale. It’s an interesting idea, but Clone Force 99 ain’t going nowhere for a while.

Another theory that’s definitely the least likely to happen, would be the appearance of Darth Vader. Honestly, I wanted to consider this theory as a less likely theory instead of least likely, but like I’ve mentioned before, there's already so much on our plate. There’s too many storylines that they’re exploring right now, and none of them should involve Vader so soon. I’d love to see him later in the series, but we really don’t need him here. The only way I can see him coming, is if we somehow start seeing talks of the future Death Star project, Project Stardust. Since the last episode of this season is called Project Warmantle, it’s definitely the least likely theory. I suspect we’d see something like this in the middle, towards the end of the series. With the appearance, or rather the mention of Project Stardust, we could also see characters like Director Krennic from Rogue One alongside him, or maybe even my personal favorite Imperial, Grand Admiral Thrawn, since he’d likely have his own ideas he’d want to present to this new Empire. Now that I think of it though, Thrawn is likely still in the Imperial Academy, or maybe hasn’t even joined the Empire yet, so that’s another theory that’s definitely the least likely.

One final theory that I think is probably the most least likely, or the most impossible, is the appearance of a big name Jedi like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Master Yoda, or Mace Windu (if they do confirm he’s alive). Yeah, this theory is basically debunked on sight, because Obi-Wan and Yoda probably haven’t even delivered Luke and Leia Skywalker yet, or they probably JUST began their exiles on Tatooine and Dagobah respectively. As far as someone like Mace Windu, if he truly somehow managed to survive, then he’s likely still recovering somehow on Coruscant. A dying, or at least a critically injured Jedi wouldn’t travel to Kamino where it’s swarming with Imperials, or really anywhere with a bunch of traffic, which is usually where the Bad Batch are. It’s a small theory, but it was at least worth mentioning.

Final Thoughts

No matter what, I think the season finale for this wonderful series is going to be fantastic. There’s so much potential for this show in the long run, and I really hope it sticks around for a bunch of series. I really do think that we’ll see Boba sometime, I really do think Crosshair will be redeemed, and I’m reeeally hoping that we’ll see Commander Cody once or twice more. Don’t expect any Jedi, though. Well, that’s gonna wrap it up for me, what did you guys think? Let me know on Instagram and Twitter, and make sure you follow for constant updates and news!
