2022’s Big Star Wars line-up
Is Star Wars taking over again?
Welcome back, y’all! We’ve got a super fun article to get through, and I’m so excited to be writing such a big one. We’re going to be talking about any 2022 games and television shows, whether they’re confirmed or rumored. It’s going to be a lot, but I know we’re all gonna have some fun here. I won’t necessarily have a section format, but what I’ll do instead, is talk about a project as its own section, and move on from there. Make sense? Good! Remember, not everything here is going to be 1005 confirmed. When I talk about my personal theories or rumors that I’ve heard, that’s really all they are- theories and rumors. Alright, let’s just jump right into it.
The Book of Boba Fett
This is something I’ve previously written about, and I know this is technically a 2021 release, but it’ll be dropping in December, meaning most of its episodes will be for next year, so I’m just throwing it in here to kick us off. So! What do we know right now? Well, we of course know that we’ll be following the adventures of Boba Fett and his new partner Fennec Shand, as they take the reigns as the new criminal kingpins of Tatooine, likely taking on or teaming up with other organizations such as the Pykes, Hutt Cartel, and maybe even the Crimson Dawn, since (SPOILERS) the Crimson Dawn has returned in the War of the Bounty Hunters comic series. We can gather that Boba’s going to be following the footsteps of Jabba as a drug smuggling crime lord, and a ruthless criminal, as we know that A), he’s Boba Fett, B), he took over Jabba’s palace at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian, and C), the working title of this series is called Buccaneer. The title of Buccaneer is actually quite important, because for those of you who don’t know what a buccaneer is, it’s essentially a pirate. Pirates smuggle, pirates kill, pirates get paid. We’re getting a pirate, crime boss, gangster Boba Fett, and I couldn’t be happier. Now, I have gone on record saying that we should probably expect to see Bossk and even Cad Bane. Let me clarify that. I have no idea what this series is bringing, but I for sure know that it’s bringing cameos. Star Wars loves nostalgia, and nothing is more nostalgic than seeing fan favorite characters that we haven’t seen in a long time. I 100% believe that we’ll be seeing Bossk, because as of late, people have actually been building a bit of a cult gathering around that character, and I assume it’s because of his role in The Clone Wars. If we know our good old Dave Filoni, I’m sure he's already noticed that, so I’m sure he’d want to involve Bossk somehow, whether it’s a quick cameo, or even as a mainstay in the Boba series. As far as Cad Bane, I believe that we’ll see him, but maybe not in the first season. It would be amazing, but to be realistic, it would be a bit distracting. I personally feel that they wouldn’t want to overwhelm us with big cameos like that in the first season, since they’re testing the waters with Boba, and they would want to focus on his story more than anything. It is rumored that they’re looking to have multiple seasons, but that of course isn’t confirmed. If we do get a season 2, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll get Cad Bane in there. I’m also thinking that we’ll see Boba come into contact with Cobb Vanth, since he’s also based on Tatooine. This might be a stretch, but maybe we’ll even see the character of Jodo Kast. Jodo Kast is a classic Legends character, who actually had his own set of Mandalorian armor, but designed it to look very similar to Boba Fett, so that he can use Boba’s name as a means to get paid more from his bounty hunts, and as a means to strike fear into others. This is probably too optimistic, but it’s still worth mentioning.
Andor
Wow, we really don’t see too many people talking about this one. For this project, we really don’t know much. Of course, we know Cassian is going to be the star of this series, we’ll definitely see his buddy K-2SO, a character that I think we’ll see first as an Imperial droid, who we’ll then see get reprogrammed by Cassian or his allies. Based on the set leaks provided by Bespin Bulletin and the information provided by Star Wars News Net, we’ll see Cassian taking on Shoretroopers once again (the troopers first seen in Rogue One, later seen in The Mandalorian season 2), which may possibly hint at Scarif, though I doubt that. Based on what we’ve heard from Lucasfilm themselves and Diego Luna, the actor who plays Cassian Andor, we should all be prepared for a spy themed, James Bond-esque series. Since this is a Rogue One related series, we should also expect this series to be a bit gritty. The last thing that we know, is that we will see the planet of Yavin IV, the rebel base seen in various Star Wars projects. We know this because of the concept art shown directly from Lucasfilm in the sizzle reel shown back in 2020. Since this is the case, it’s likely we’ll be seeing the characters of Mon Mothma, and perhaps even Senator Bail Organa. From this sizzle reel, we also see many other pieces of concept art depicting character designs for aliens and humanoid characters, cities, scenes, and some vehicles. It’s safe to say, this is gonna be good. Now, in terms of rumors, it has been rumored before that we may even see the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi himself. Personally, I could see this happening, as we did get a nice little reference to him in Rogue One. What he could be doing in this series truly isn’t known, but I’d imagine that he’d perhaps be considered part of the Rebellion during this time period. It’s a bit of a wild rumor, but based on the rumors that we’ve heard for the Kenobi series, it could definitely work, but I’ll talk about that project next. I would imagine that we won’t be seeing Jyn, but we just might see the deranged Saw Gerrera, as he splits himself and his followers from the Rebellion. That’s just about it for Andor, but we’ll keep you posted when new information is given.
Kenobi
Now here’s a project that we know next to nothing about, but boy are the rumors HOT. The only thing we know for sure, is that we’ll of course be seeing Ewan McGregor return to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, we’ll be seeing Joel Edgarton as Owen Lars, Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars, and good old Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader himself. We know that actors and actresses Indira Varma, Moses Ingram, Sung Kang, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. Of course, there will be others who will feature, but I’m sure they’ll be surprise characters/cameos. The series is being directed by Deborah Chow, the director who also directed some episodes of The Mandalorian, which should come as great news, because those episodes were fantastic. Not even just that, but also because of the visuals used for The Mandalorian, we should be hyped to see the Kenobi series looking so good. Now, beyond this, we don’t know too much more, besides the fact that Kenobi will actually be facing Vader, and that the Empire will indeed have a major presence in this series. I assume that Vader won’t necessarily find Obi-Wan on Tatooine, because it wouldn’t make sense, considering how he could sense Luke. I believe that this is where Obi-Wan might tie into the Andor series. If Obi-Wan is indeed involved with the Rebellion during this time, it would make sense that Vader might receive information from his subordinates that Obi-Wan is in leagues with the Rebellion, and then decides to hunt him down to get revenge for what he did to him. This is a stretch, but I think it would be possible for Vader to find Kenobi on a planet previously introduced in the Prequel Trilogy, like Coruscant or perhaps Naboo. Something else that makes sense, is that we’ll see a very young Luke Skywalker, since Owen and Beru Lars are confirmed. It’s even rumored that we’ll see a young Leia Organa, and if this is to be believed, then the links between Andor and Kenobi would really start to connect. We’ve also heard rumors that Frank Oz was spotted on set, which may indicate that we’ll see, or at least hear Master Yoda communicating with Kenobi. Also, even though Liam Neeson has denied it, I think we’ll be seeing Qui-Gon Jinn as a Force ghost. I say this because Ewan McGregor did the exact same thing before he eventually confirmed that he’d be returning as the chracter. Not much more to say about this series, but if all of this is true, we’re gonna have a VERY good year.
The Mandalorian Season 3
Last but not least (in terms of live action television programs), we’ve got The Mandalorian to talk about. Now, we’ve heard from Giancarlo Esposito himself, that Gideon will very likely be returning, but we as fans already expected this. It is good that he’s building up the hype, though, so props to him for being such a tease. It’s also been recently rumored/leaked out by Bespin Bulletin that this series will start shooting this September, up until March. If this is true, it’s very likely that we’ll be getting the third season sometime next Fall, or next Winter. We don’t know much beyond this, but based on the ending of the second season, it’s likely that we’ll see Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze bump heads as she tries to reclaim the Darksaber. If Gideon does indeed return, I think he’s going to play the role of an instigator like we saw in season 2. I believe he’ll remind Bo-Katan and Din of their own Mandalorian traditions, essentially forcing them to fight over the blade in order to properly follow their cultural beliefs. I do think we’ll see Din become Mand’alor (leader of the Mandalorians), but I don’t think he’ll kill Bo-Katan. Next, I believe that Boba Fett will also have some sort of importance to the Mandalorian faction. In Legends, it was he who became leader of the Mandalorians at one point, though I’m sure we won’t see that happen. Rather, I think since he and Din are allies, I think we’ll see Din integrate Boba as a proper Mandalorian, since his father Jango was a foundling. This may possibly fuel Bo-Katan’s anger to fight Din for the Darksaber, especially with Gideon in her ear telling her how improper this may be for the Mandalorian culture. We might even see Boba fight her, especially if she tries to attack him. It’s all speculation really, but it’s interesting to think about. I’m not sure what role Fennec would play, but I do believe that she’ll stay on Boba’s side no matter what he does. I’m not sure if this is just a partnership, or if this will eventually turn into a romance like many people have been saying. Either way, I would really love to see Fennec Shand stay with Boba at all times. We’ve also heard from someone involved with this third season that this series will go back to its roots, and will feel a lot more like season one. This likely means that we’ll be getting little to no more cameos, and we’ll see Din as the hardened warrior as we first saw him. This may also even tease that he’ll be getting a new set of armor, or maybe even some paint. Either way, this series is coming back, and we’ll be in for a crazy ride.
The Bad Batch Season 2
Here’s when we really know nothing about an upcoming Star Wars project. We have heard that there will be a bit of a time skip, which may indicate that we’ll see an older, more experienced Omega. I hope this is true, because I really want to see Omega become her own character instead of constantly being in danger, needing the help of her brothers almost all the time. I understand she’s a child, but even Grogu, a literal baby, was a lot more useful than she’s been. I like the idea of Omega, so they reeeally need to turn her into the next Ahsoka in this season. Now, we don’t really know much about when it’s coming, but we do know that it is a 2022 release. Since this is the case, I think we’ll see this series release between the time of The Book of Boba Fett, and Andor. In terms of story, we now know that the planet featured in the post credits scene of The Bad Batch was the planet of Wayland, known as Weyland in Legends. In Legends, Weyland was a planet where we saw Thrawn establish a research station to research the cloning and shield technology established in Mount Tantiss, a mountain where a secret base was built. If this has any impact to the canonization of Mount Tantiss in The Bad Batch, I think it’s safe to say the the Empire is truly up to no good. The scientist who approached Nala Se in this post credits scene wore the exact same outfit worn by Dr. Pershing, the cloning scientist in The Mandalorian, so we know for sure that Mount Tantiss will in fact be the station used for cloning research. Since this is the case, I believe it’s here where the Empire may research how to clone Force users, to use them as powerful Imperial units to establish dominance over the galaxy, and even to help them hunt down the remaining Jedi. I think it’s also possible that they might be researching other secret projects, such as clones for Emperor Palpatine to transfer his consciousness into as seen in Legends, and perhaps it’s here where they begin the Dark Trooper Program. As seen in The Mandalorian, the dark troopers were a powerful unit, who were almost impervious to blaster fire and flames, and they’re actually considered “third-generation”, which hints at my next point. In Legends, the Empire had three phases of the dark troopers. Phase I dark troopers (as seen in Dark Forces) were a special battle droid unit that had shields and vibroblades attached to their arms. These were fairly weak though, so we were then given the Phase II dark troopers, who were experimental stormtrooper units who used shoulder mounted cannons and powerful grenade launcher type weapons called ARC casters. They were retired by Phase III dark troopers, who were these bulky battle droid units and even exosuits for a trooper to wear in combat. They had massive shoulder mounted rockets and a powerful handheld cannon, but were all eventually destroyed. In canon, we’ve seen the Phase II dark troopers in the canceled mobile game Star Wars: Commander, and were eventually given the current third-generation ones in the previously mentioned series. It’s a lot to take in, but it’s all very possible.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
Alright, we’re finally talking about video games! Now, this wouldn’t be in this article had it come out when it was supposed to, but since it’s confirmed that it’s been delayed into 2022, we get to talk about this. I have written about this as well, but I’ll still go over this game a little bit. As I’ve told you all before, we know that we’ll be playing throughout the three Skywalker Saga trilogies, and we’ll be able to play them in any order that we want. There’s going to be a TON of characters at launch, and we also know that we’re getting six DLC character packs, featuring characters from The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, Rogue One, and three others, which I’ve speculated to be based off of The Mandalorian season 2, The Book of Boba Fett, and others. I have also speculated that they might very well involve The Clone Wars into the actual story of this game, but since it’s technically not part of the movies, it may not be featured, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. Another thing I have speculated, is that this game might be a live game, where we’ll probably see some story DLC packs as we get more and more Star Wars content in the coming year. We do know that there will be lightsaber clashes, some gameplay elements of a third person shooter, and even some space battles. This is a short one, but don’t let that prevent you from considering picking this game up.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order II
Now this one is going to be puuure speculation, as I’m sure you all imagined. Fans were disappointed when the most recent EA Play event didn’t feature even a smidgen of Jedi: Fallen Order II, as we all really expected to see a reveal, or at least some sort of tease. Don’t let that bother you too much. If we didn’t see it this year, be prepared to see it next year. It very likely won’t be released next year, but again, be sure that we’ll be seeing something for it. We’ve all been super excited to see Cal Kestis and his friends take on the next adventure, fighting off the Empire while unlocking the secrets of the Jedi to guide Cal back into the ways of the light side of the Force. This time around, I think we’ll see Cal pulling off some brand new tricks with his lightsaber and his Force abilities, as he’s only going to get stronger and stronger as his story unfolds. That, and we also know that the romance between him and Merrin will only blossom as time passes. I also believe that we’ll see Cal struggle a bit more with the influences of the dark side of the Force, and it’ll be interesting to see how that affects him and his crew as they venture out into the galaxy. I personally think we might not see Vader again, but I do believe we’ll see Cal and crew join up with the Rebellion and see some other familiar faces. If this is true, I think it would be insane to see someone like Cassian, Mon Mothma, or Bail. Perhaps as Cal continues to find holocrons and other bits of information shared amongst the Jedi, his journey might very well lead him to finding Master Yoda, or perhaps Obi-Wan Kenobi. Don’t get too hyped for this, as I have no information to base this off of. This is purely speculation, but it’s speculation that could very well make sense to Cal’s story. In terms of a release date, I do think we’ll find that out next year, but it’s safe to expect it early 2023. If we’re lucky, maybe it’ll release in late 2022.
Ubisoft’s Open World Star Wars Game
You guys remember when this was confirmed some months ago? What’s even going on with this game? This game is probably the most mysterious Star Wars project we know about, whether we’re talking video games, television programs, or movies. The only things we know, are that this is indeed a story driven open world game- rather a MASSIVE open world game as Ubisoft put it- and that this game is being headed by Massive Entertainment. Oh, and it’s being created using something called the Snowdrop engine, which was created by Massive for The Division and other titles. Now beyond this, that’s all we know, so it really is all speculation. We don’t know if this game will be multiplayer or single player, but I personally hope it’s multiplayer. We have the Fallen Order series already, so there’s a gap in modern open world multiplayer games when it comes to Star Wars. Even though The Old Republic is still a fantastic game by today’s standards, we could use a new multiplayer game, or even a remake of The Old Republic. If this game is multiplayer, and truly is as massive as Massive themselves say it is, then maybe I’m not too crazy when I say that this actually could be an Old Republic remake. This could be too optimistic, but let me clarify when I say that this isn’t something I actually expect. I’m simply hoping that this game really is a brand new Old Republic game. Don’t take this as confirmation! Now, if this game has nothing to do with that time period, it’s very likely that this game would be set during the Original Trilogy. This could make sense, because in canon, there are plenty of Imperial Inquisitors and plenty of Jedi in hiding, so it would actually make sense for thousands of players to play as their own respective Jedi or Inquisitor. I suppose this game would be like The Old Republic, but would instead be based in the time period of the Galactic Civil War. Whether it’s a SWTOR remake, a Galactic Civil War MMORPG, or another single player RPG game, I’m keeping my eyes and ears open for some more news on this game.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake
Oh. My. God. It’s actually happening. The rumors are true. Knights of the Old Republic is actually being remade. Not remastered, but REMADE. Let me explain something to you all really quick. When it comes to Star Wars, whether we’re talking Disney canon or Legends, Revan is my absolute all-time favorite Star Wars character. Favorite Jedi? Jedi Knight Revan. Favorite SIth? Darth Revan. Favorite Star Wars video game character? Revan. Favorite lightsaber? Revan’s lighstabers, the purple and the red ones. Favorite helmet? The ancient Mandalorian helmet that Revan took for himself. Like, I’m all about that Revan life. Phew, glad I got my inner fanboy out. Now, here’s my thing. For this game, it’s not necessarily a 1:1 remake, as they’ve hinted at in the interview over at Star Wars dot com. They say that they didn’t want to stray to far from the story because it wouldn’t be true to the original, and they didn’t want to be too similar to the story because there would then be no point of a remake. I fully agree with both statements. What I gather from this, is that we’ll be following and respecting the story of Revan, while also being treated to something new and fresh for this video game. That statement alone gets me pumped. Now, here’s where I start to get worried. Apparently, this game is being written by someone named Sam Maggs. You don’t have to agree with what I’m about to say, but you can at least read it. Sam Maggs is someone who has openly insulted, attacked, and berated men and the so called “patriarchy” of the world. I am not looking to debate on this subject, because all you have to do is look her up on Twitter, where you can see her openly attacking or blaming men for things, whether it’s because of people not supporting the Sequel Trilogy, not enjoying Rey’s character arc, or for supporting characters like Anakin Skywalker because he was born powerful (even though he needed training to tap into this power).
Let me say this. Many men, women, and non-binary people have all agreed on the horrible character arc of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren. I agree, there have been men who didn’t like to see a powerful female, however, when you actually open your eyes, you can see very clearly, that people of all types have been disliking the Sequel Trilogy and its characters for legitimate reasons. Instead, this very same Sam Maggs has gone on the record, telling people that they’re misogynistic for disliking Rey, saying men screw everything up every time, calling men “snotty, angry baby boys”. and even blaming white women for following the misogyny and patriarchy of men. Let me be clear. I support you no matter your color, your beliefs, your preferences, all of the above. You’re all human, and you’re all beautiful no matter what. But, to be like this Sam Maggs, attacking men, insulting white women, tweeting “Aeshetic: die mad about it”, and whining like a child because people- only men apparently- don’t like Rey, you really must be a sad, terrible person. It’s shameful that Lucasfilm can clearly see someone attack the male and female gender alike, and still put them in charge of such an important game. A game that apparently, Sam doesn’t even like that much. Proof, “ ‘isn’t kotor your favorite’ no”. I’m sorry, but this is extremely disrespectful to ALL fans of KOTOR. This honestly worries me, because if someone who clearly hates men is in charge of a story who features many strong men AND women, why wouldn’t Sam want to use this creative power to completely sideline the character of Revan or Malak? Why wouldn’t she use her platform to destroy their character arcs? I’m excited for this remake, but honestly, if someone who’s as openly offensive as Sam Maggs is seriously allowed to be the senior writer to write this game, they either need to make sure others are making sure she stays on track and on the same page as the other creatives on their team, start from scratch with someone new, or cancel it. Beyond this, we really can’t talk much about this game, besides the fact that we’ll get more details in late 2022, maybe even early 2023, but don’t expect it until maybe late 2023. I would say be excited, but please, speak out against this sort of person. It’s insanely offensive to give this woman power, knowing how misandrist and hateful she is towards not just men, but even being misogynistic towards white women.
Final Thoughts
2022 is going to be such a lovely year for Star Wars. It’s going to such a ride seeing all of these characters being brought to life again, or for the first time. I love all of these characters from the bottom of my heart, I truly do. Star Wars has been such an important part of my life growing up, and my love for it has only grown. Whether it’s Boba Fett, Darth Revan, Ahsoka Tano, Bastila Shan, Asajj Ventress, Luke Skywalker, or even the background aliens in a cantina, I love them all. I can’t say I support the Sequel Trilogy, and I have my genuine reasons behind that, but even if you enjoy those films, you’re still a Star Wars fan, so we should all be excited for more Star Wars. Honestly, the only thing that really does bother and worry me, is the fact that someone like Sam Maggs is actually the Senior Writer of the new KOTOR remake. Nobody should hate ANYBODY. Nobody should bully, make fun of, attack, or downgrade ANYBODY. We’re all fantastic people who love Star Wars, and we won’t agree on everything, but that’s okay, because there’s a bit of Star Wars for everyone. Something that cannot be allowed, and should absolutely be frowned upon and pointed out, is the presence of misandry and hate speech. If your favorite character is Rey, that’s great, I’m glad she speaks to you as a character, and I have no problem with your preference. My favorite character is Revan, don’t attack me because of my preference. We all need to support and respect each other, no matter of our sex, gender, beliefs, or preferences. Sam Maggs is 200% a hateful human being, and she needs to be spoken about. This can’t be looked at and brushed off. She openly hates and attacks, and she’s still being give this sort of power. There needs to be genuine repercussions for this sort of hate speech, and it cannot be allowed simply because she’s a woman. If you’re one of my female readers, know that I support and appreciate you, but be responsible and speak out against this, because whether you realize it or not, hate speech targets any gender, and any sex. The Wolf Den will always strive for greatness, and will always support the representation of all people, and equality amongst each and every one of us. Don’t just be a fan, be a human being. I appreciate you all for reading, this has been The Wolf Den.
